Tauranga RDA Equestrian Therapy Centre
Tauranga Riding for the Disabled is a Registered Charitable Trust affiliated to the New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association. We operate throughout the Bay of Plenty region and provide therapeutic horse related activities for children and adults with physical, mental, cognitive, social or behavioural needs. This includes riding, horsemanship and vocational skills. Our clients range in ages from three to sixty and come from all walks of life. Because horse riding is an activity which stimulates and exercises both mentally and physically, it is ideal for people with disabilities as well as those that are disadvantaged, at risk or have mental and social issues.

There are many thousands of people in our Western BOP district registered with a physical disability. With today’s changing society there is a growing need to address many social issues where innovative programmes are needed to engage people to help them grow, build self esteem and confidence in themselves
The money raised will go to our indoor arena project. Our current facilities are now obsolete, inadequate and in imminent need of replacement. The current building is unable to cope with the demands of the community. Riders sessions have to be cancelled due to bad weather as the building is only partially covered and rain comes in at all angles. The cost of completing the Indoor arena will be in the close vicinity of $400,000 and annual operational costs of RDA are $150,000.
We provide Intensive and remedial therapy for people with physical and or mental disabilities and mental health therapy for clients suffering from low self esteem, anxiety, depression, grief and aggressive behaviour. We also provide a service for students and volunteers to learn skills and gain experience for work.

The above is 303 words but if possible, could the below client statements go in too??
Some client comments: “The skills I have learned at RDA have turned my life around dramatically and I can never thank them enough. I know the path I was following was a path that was going to get me thrown into jail and believe me, many tried to take me off that path with shrinks groups, and I just wouldn’t listen. RDA changed my life and now my path leads to a brighter future and I’m looking forward to it.” Martin Chew, 13.
“I was diagnosed with FacioScapularHumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSH) when I was 12. There have been huge physical improvements for me which are all down to my weekly rides at Tauranga RDA. Improved stamina, balance and trunk strength, better posture and more flexibility. I also get less upper back pain that I used to get when I walk. All of this is purely down to the riding (as that’s the only thing that has changed in my lifestyle) so I’m really glad I plucked up the courage to make the call.” Jodie Thorne, 28.
